ASA Board:
I've created a message board on which we can initiate a new discussion, continue a discussion started at a meeting or in passing, and [perhaps one day] vote on items online rather than in person.
Please let me know what you think of this idea.
My intention is to give the board members, regular members, Solarites, and the public a place to speak their minds regarding solar. Some discussion threads will open only to the board, but hopefully most will remain open to the public, as we'd like as much discussion as possible about solar NOW--not after another 25 years slip by with the assumption that solar will not be viable in our lifetime.

btw, I know more than a few individuals who would take offense at having to register a "birth date" in order to enable a login to this or any forum. If this rule sticks, expect to see static about that policy or at the very least some 'creative' birth dates used... paul

hello everyone, we are new to this site. have been doing solar and other green things for about 3 years now. this will be the first month with everything up and running ( we have done everything ourselves, no companies) we are really excited to see the out come. we are using solar ( off the grid) just increase are batteries. went to wood burning about 2 years ago for heat. tried a garden, didnt work out well this year, hoping for better luck next year. not sure if anyone is interested, but will post our out come this month. looking for more ideas if anyone has them. not alot of support here,(birmingham, alabama.) the idea of living green really hasnt caught on yet.

Just got back from the National Solar Thermal Conference in Milwaukee and didn't see any of you there but it was a great conference again. For me, on a scale of one to ten, it was an eleven. I'm looking forward to more interaction here on the Alabama Solar forum and looking forward to starting some installations in the spring after I get my work van equipped and get used to using OSHA approved roof worker safety equipment and after a million little odds and ends associated with starting a business. Hi! here what me and my family has done. Here is my Electric for reading date Jan. 17, 2013 for past 30 days amount used 444 kwh we have 4 at home 1-11years old , 1-13 old and me & wife. now are two kids take a bath every day the 13 year will stay in the shower for over 30 min. the 11 will do the same. all between 6:30pm and 8:00 pm I take my bath or shower at 8:00 to 9:00 Am and my wife maybe at 10:00am and every day at least 2 full washer of clothes. we all have hot water. Dish washer get used at least 4 times a day. Here is my Electric for reading date dec. 18.2012 for past 33 days amount used 426 kwh I STOP using Electricity heating my hot water over 40 years ago Because I was living in a All Electricity HOME in Huntsville Al. in in 1973 lots of gas lines. back than, and may be again, In 1973 the bill was over 240Dollars per month got behind on the bill was over 1000Dollars Learned my Lesson WELL I STOP using it All my home and water would be by solar or wood, never used Electric. maybe I used a Instant gas water heater For about 3 to 6 day a YEAR. I need just 2K More of solar cells Electric, to be OFF-GRID NO MORE: Electric BILL. Open loop systems are the simplest to design and construct. They generally require the least amount of construction and have the potential to last longer without serious maintenance due to their limited amount of moving parts DR Remington's idea Has Not Been improved for over 100 years Bailey adopted Remington idea every thing went very well, But Cheap Energy came along and spoil it all. A DIY Thermosiphon Solar Water Heater Will Walk all over Every commercial system made today I have been trying to get the schools interesting in having a diy class on solar trying to let the junior high school and high school to make a power point of my pdf files but, if not I already have one make but I think the kids will do a better job of doing it. I have Two Daughters in school I think the kids will have more influence over us older folks. may be solar will have a better go of it Raphael in North Alabama Here my SITE: groups.yahoo.com/group/diysolardiy/

Mr. Raphael I enjoyed your post and link to your solar residential solar hot water system built up "before solar was cool". I assume the heat from your collector thermosiphons it's way up to a tank on the roof. I like the idea of draining a bit out of your reservoir before a potential "deep freeze" to keep from bursting any pipes. I have lived here only 25 years but it has dropped into the teens for a week more than once in that time. I assume you used soft copper (type L) serpentine in your collector to survive those cold spells without bursting. It is nice to see a post from a REAL SOLAR USER. I have two off-the-shelf 4X7 foot panels with one pump and a controller so my system is only slightly more complex than yours but as you say-- It is all GOOD. -- SAVE MONEY- USE SOLAR --
